The End of an Era

Dear Vividly Community,

After nine months on this great journey, we are changing course.

Vividly has been, since the start, an experiment. We wondered whether we could create crowdsourced, art-inspired, made in the USA clothing. We wondered whether artists would enjoy and benefit from the concept; whether we could change the way people thought about their clothing; and whether we could build a business around this idea.

Nine months later, we have answers. We found that we could create the clothing, but the costs of production are high. We were thrilled to find that most artists loved the concept, and many of our customers began to think more about their purchasing decisions. We found that our direct to consumer, made-to-order business model ultimately did not work.

It’s a bittersweet moment for us. We’re sad to announce that we will no longer be accepting submissions nor selling pieces through an e-commerce platform. Instead, we will be offering only wholesale orders to artists or boutiques who want to purchase in bulk for re-sale. Our site will be completely scaled back, as will our social media presence. We may occasionally send out an email, but it will only be to share any big news regarding our new business model.

We see a silver lining when we look back on what we built in a short time, the lessons learned, and the community of creatives we got to meet.

We want to say a big THANK YOU to all the people who have supported us along the way. We are especially thankful for the artists who dreamed big with us and inspired us every day. We were lucky to work with such talented people, and we hope that you all will continue pursuing your dreams and creating beautiful things.

Thank you, also, to our talented patternmakers and seamstresses. You were patient with us newbies, and we are grateful for that and for all you taught us. Thank you to our advisors, mentors, friends, and family.

And, thank you to our customers. We made it this far thanks to you, and you’ll keep the dream alive every time you wear a Vividly piece.

With love,

Sil & Sab
